Privacy Policy

Who we are
Matchd ("we," "us," or "our") operates matchdpickleball.com. We are based in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. Questions about this policy can be directed to [email protected].
What we collect, why, and who can see it
This covers the Matchd app. The website is covered under Cookies below.
Holding a spot from a game link without the app: we keep only the name you type, show it to that game’s host and players (never on the public page), and delete it 7 days after the game. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you’re a person before the name is saved.
1. Your account
- What: email address, first and last name, and optionally a profile photo, a short bio, your city and state, and when you accepted our Terms.
- Why: to create and secure your account, show your profile to other players, and send password-reset emails.
- Who can see it: your name, photo, bio and city are visible to other signed-in Matchd players. Your email is never shown to other players.
- Kept: until you delete your account.
2. Your player profile
- What: your skill rating (self-rated, or your DUPR rating and DUPR ID if you link one), preferred formats, play style, preferred courts, and weekly availability (if you set it).
- Why: to match you with games at your level and near your courts.
- Who can see it: other signed-in players can see your rating. You control whether others see your availability, match history, preferred courts and exact rating (Profile → Settings → Privacy).
- Kept: until you delete your account.
3. Phone number (optional)
- What: a phone number, if you add one at sign-up, in onboarding, or in Profile → Settings.
- Why: so friends who have your number in their contacts can find you on Matchd. That feature (“contact matching”) is built but not active yet; we’ll update this policy before it’s switched on.
- Who can see it: no other player can see your phone number.
- Kept: until you remove it or delete your account.
4. Your contacts (optional, with your permission)
- What: if you open Invite Friends and allow access, the app reads the names and phone numbers in your device contacts.
- Why: so you can text an invite to a friend. When contact matching is switched on, the numbers will be checked against Matchd accounts to show which friends are already here. They won’t be stored.
- Who can see it: only you, on your device.
- Kept: not stored on our servers.
5. Location
- What: your device’s location, used while you use the app to find courts and games near you. If you tap “Share location” in a game chat, your location at that moment is saved and shown to the other players in that game for 30 minutes.
- Why: nearby courts and games, and helping players find each other at the court.
- Who can see it: your everyday location isn’t shown to anyone. A shared location is visible only to players in that game, and only for 30 minutes.
- Kept: shared locations stop being visible after 30 minutes and are deleted from our servers after 24 hours. We don’t keep a record of your everyday location.
6. Games and game history
- What: games you create or join, when and where, the players, requests and invites, and scores if you enter them.
- Why: to run games and show your history.
- Who can see it: players in the same game. Your history is visible to others only if your privacy setting allows it.
- Kept: as part of the game record. If you delete your account, past games stay in the other players’ history with your name shown as “Deleted User”.
7. Messages and photos you share
- What: direct messages, game-chat and group messages; court notes, which are public to all signed-in players and expire after 72 hours; photos you send in chat, group icons, and your profile photo.
- Why: so you can talk to other players.
- Who can see it: direct, game and group messages: only the people in that conversation. Court notes: all signed-in players.
- Kept: court-note threads are removed within about two weeks of expiring. Other messages are kept until you delete them. When you delete a message it disappears for everyone right away and its text is erased from our servers. Photos you sent may remain in storage for a limited time after you delete the message.
8. Reviews and ratings
- What: after a game you can rate players you played with and leave an optional comment.
- Why: to build trust and keep skill levels honest.
- Who can see it: a player’s average rating is only shown once they have at least 3 reviews; individual reviews can be anonymous.
- Kept: as part of the game record.
9. Notifications
- What: a push token from Apple (or Google on Android) for your device, and your notification preferences.
- Why: to send game, message and friend notifications you’ve allowed.
- Who can see it: nobody.
- Kept: until you sign out of that device or delete your account.
10. How you use the app
- What: in-app events such as screens opened, games joined or created, and messages sent, stored with your account ID in our own database. No third-party analytics SDK is used in the app.
- Why: to understand which features work and fix what doesn’t.
- Who can see it: only the Matchd team.
- Kept: 12 months, then deleted. If you delete your account, your past events are unlinked from you.
11. Crash and diagnostic data (from app version 1.0.25)
- What: when the app crashes or hits an error, a technical report (device model, OS version, app version, error details) goes to Sentry, our error-monitoring provider.
- Why: to find and fix bugs.
- Who can see it: the Matchd team, and Sentry as our processor. Reports don’t include your name, email, phone number or location, and are never used for advertising.
- Kept: 30 days.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell or rent your personal data, and we don’t share it with advertisers.
- The app has no advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs.
- We don’t collect payment information.
Deleting your data
In the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account. This signs you out and scrubs your email and password; removes your name, photo, bio, rating, phone number, location (including any shared locations), push tokens and preferences, and unlinks your usage events; removes you from upcoming games and cancels games you were hosting; and removes your friendships and blocks.
What stays: past game records (as “Deleted User”) and messages you sent in shared conversations stay, so other players’ history still makes sense. You can delete individual messages before deleting your account.
By email: to view, correct or delete your data, email [email protected]. We reply within 30 days.
Service providers
- Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage, on AWS in the United States.
- Apple and Google: push notification delivery.
- Sentry: crash reports.
- Cloudflare: website hosting.
- Google Maps / Places: court photos and maps.
- DUPR: only if you link your DUPR account.
Cookies
This website (matchdpickleball.com) uses three analytics tools to understand how visitors use the site. None of them is used for advertising, and we don't sell the data.
- Microsoft Clarity (most pages): records how visitors interact with a page (clicks, scrolling, mouse movement, and session recordings and heatmaps built from them), plus device, browser, and approximate location. By default Clarity masks text you type into form fields. It sets first-party cookies (such as
_clck and _clsk). Microsoft privacy statement.
- Google Analytics 4 (Community Guidelines page only): counts page views and collects device, browser, referring site, and approximate location. It sets cookies (such as
_ga). Google privacy policy · Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics (all pages, added by our hosting provider): counts visits and page load performance. It does not use cookies. Cloudflare privacy policy.
How to opt out: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, use a content or tracker blocker, or install Google's opt-out add-on above. The site works normally with all of these blocked.
The Matchd mobile app does not use advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs.
Children
Matchd is not for children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has signed up, we delete their account and data. If you believe a child has signed up, email [email protected].
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top. For material changes, and before contact matching is switched on, we’ll also tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
